Who we are

At Taitokerau Education Trust, we believe in a bright future for the tamariki (children) of Taitokerau.

We prepare tamariki for the future by making devices, connectivity and technology-enabled education programmes accessible to every child.

Every ākonga (student) is different and learns differently, which is why the pathway to each child’s best life lies in adapting the learning experience in a way that enables them to feel valued and respected for who they are.

Education needs to be fun to keep ākonga interested and engaged. As such, we promote the use of gaming concepts and social interaction in education.

By making use of the latest technologies and adapting to future technologies as they become available, our ākonga will have the best chance of living a fulfilling life.

Our aspiration is to develop educational programmes that complement what ākonga are learning at school to prepare them for the future, and to deliver our programmes in a way that respects ākonga culture and differences.

We are people who care

Our small and dedicated team is here to support you and your whānau on your digital journey.

Adapting our approach

Taitokerau Education Trust was established in 2014 with the aim to raise achievement levels by making personal-use devices accessible to ākongafrom lower-income households across Taitokerau.

When we started out, we knew access alone was not enough for students to succeed and why our formative Digital Immersion Programme utilised a three-pronged approach that encouraged students, their whānau, their educators and our Digital Immersion Coordinator to work in collaboration.

Our ākonga found success through the support of this engaged learning network of people. However, this was when e-learning was a new and fast-paced way of learning and teaching, and teachers benefitted from the specialised support they received through our coordinator.

Over the years, as more schools have successfully adapted to teaching an e-learning curriculum, we too have adapted our approach.

Our focus now is on whānau and individual learners, giving them access to the technology and information they need to support online and digital learning.

We believe

The pathway to a fulfilling life is through hauora (holistic wellbeing)

This incorporates physical fitness, mental wellness, social connectedness, financial security and a sense of purpose.

Human diversity of every kind is to be valued and celebrated

A thriving and vibrant society is one where all cultures have the opportunity to flourish and show the world the value they have to offer
